How do you check a full summary an AI wrote?

Review a five-figure summary for the meeting with the three questions and write the version you would actually bring.

Free course. Your Maestro, an AI, .

This is the full review, on your own. Your boss asks you for a March summary for Monday's meeting. You give your assistant the sales file and the survey file, and type "give me a summary of March by branch for the meeting." Imagine it hands you this (it's an example, not the answer of any particular assistant):

March summary

  1. There were 312 sales for a total of $118,196.
  2. The highest average ticket is Tlaquepaque's, at $864.50.
  3. Tonalá has the highest cancellation rate: 25% of its tickets.
  4. Average satisfaction is 4.4 out of 5.
  5. Zapopan sold $27,644.

Every figure comes from the file with the most direct calculation, so the arithmetic is right. Your job is to decide, for each one, whether you would bring it to the meeting as is, with a change, or not at all. You already have everything you need: the three questions and the pandas lines from modules 2 to 4.

  1. Find the calculation

What did the assistant have to do to reach that figure? Count rows, sum, average, divide.

  2. Ask the three questions

What is a row in that calculation? What did it divide by? What did it leave out or add twice?

  3. Recompute

With the grain, the base, and the rows you would choose for your boss's question.

  4. Write your version

A sentence with the figure and its base, ready for the meeting.

Figure 4 is from the survey and you already checked it in module 4: no need for another run, just state its base. The other four come from the sales file. For the meeting, use paid sales and no identical rows, as in the receipt on the previous page.

There is no single right way to write the code. If you get stuck, start with the clean table and solve one figure at a time. Help me start the review without giving me the answer.

Run it yourself

The summary you would actually bring

Worked example · 5 steps

Compare your review with this one, figure by figure. Open each step once you have your own version of that figure.

Work out the next step yourself, then open it to compare.

Of the five figures, one survives almost unchanged (figure 3), one only needs its base (figure 4), and three change in amount or in who wins (figures 1, 2, and 5). None had an arithmetic error. There is also no single correct version of each sentence: if your boss wants to count canceled tickets too, because they measure demand, figure 1 changes again. What doesn't change is that your sentence says what you counted and what you left out, so she can ask you for another version. This is the pattern of the whole course: the assistant added, counted, and divided correctly, and almost every figure needed a different calculation to answer what your boss asked.

Notice also what changed in your sentences. They no longer give just a figure: they say out of how many, what was counted, and what was left out. That is the habit you take with you, whether the number comes from an AI or from a report a coworker handed you. Look over the sentence I wrote for one of the figures.

Check yourself: Of the summary's five figures, which can you bring to the meeting almost as is, just adding its base?
